Countdown continues…

My last post ended with my preparation for an exchange program at IPADE in Mexico. We had a fabulous time in Mexico City where we were joined by students from Darden and IPAD (In Peru). We covered a lot of the challenges to taking a global business to Latin America and exporting successful Mexican brands to other countries. The company visits and soccer game were especially memorable. We attended classes with the IPADE students and were placed in teams with them. I enjoyed working with them on a project that involved analyzing the competitive advantages of two Mexican companies. I also had the privilege of presenting our findings to the entire class on the last day. At the end of the trip, my Spanish had improved slightly; I had a better understanding of the Mexican culture and was convinced I will be returning there for another visit before resuming to work this summer.

So what exactly does a second year do with just three weeks to graduation? For one, I’ve become a pro at finding free/near-free concerts on campus. Until this year, I didn’t realize that big name artistes come to perform on campus. I have Musiq Soulchild and Boyz II Men concerts coming up in the days ahead. Although I’ve met my graduation credit requirements, I signed up for a few special session classes, one of which is a three session Real Estate class for non-real estate concentrators. I’m enjoying the class and giving serious consideration to building a portfolio of real estate assets locally and internationally over the next few years (current market situation notwithstanding).

I’m enjoying every minute of the weeks left to graduation. I will certainly miss Chapel Hill and my 3 minute commute to class. Alright, I know it’s too early for goodbyes. I’ve received a few mails from my employer with information to aid my transition and prepare me for some weeks of class training in New York. Each email from the HR folks is a reminder that my days of waking up at 9am are numbered.
