Jeremy Bergwerff

Hello all! I’m Jeremy Bergwerff, from Jenison, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids on the western side of the state. My wife and I currently have two children, Samantha age 3 and Joshua age 1½; our third child is due between Modules 3 and 4 next spring. It’s been quite an adventure starting business school and relocating a family to a new state, but we have found welcoming people and lots of family-friendly activities everywhere we turn.
Before coming to Kenan-Flagler I owned and managed a small portfolio of rental houses, worked in the commercial loan group for Macatawa Bank, and in the finance department of Steelcase, a major office furniture manufacturer. My time at these companies provided me with some great experiences that whetted my appetite for real estate development. I’ll be concentrating in real estate with an eye toward downtown revitalization. I see some great opportunities in my hometown of Grand Rapids, and I’m really excited to learn about a lot of the changes that nearby Durham has seen in recent years. This will be a great opportunity for learning both inside and outside of the classroom. In addition to my formal work, I serve on the board of directors for a childcare center and have served on the finance committee of our church back in Michigan.
When my wife and I aren’t chasing our two little kids around the house we really enjoy visiting state and national parks and trying out new recipes on our friends (shout out to Cooks Illustrated magazine!)
